A group of girls viciously beats up another girl and it’s all caught on tape on purpose.
The Florida video is a hot topic on the internet today.
Psychology experts say unfortunately it says a lot a about our society.
The victim, 16-year-old Victoria Lindsay never had a chance. Six girls attacked her and continuously hit her on the head and face. Psychology experts say kids imitate what they see.
Through children's own experiences of being exposed to abuse or being exposed to domestic violence and violence in their community, once children are desensitized, it's easy for them," said Libby Ralston, a local child therapist.
Ralston says children are repeatedly exposed to movies, video games, and music videos that glamorize violence, so they think it's ok.
The girls in this video were arrested but reportedly have expressed no remorse.
Ralston says the fact that the group posted the teen beating on YouTube represents a mob mentality. People are more willing to participate in anti-social behavior when they're in a group.
When a group of people are involved in violent acts, it may be the same dynamic that leads them to wanting other people to see that. They feel safer as a part of the group," she said.
Because this video is on the internet for the entire world to see, it makes another statement about society, that there's a lack of external controls to stop violence.
"People who develop their own internal controls control their own behavior. When those people aren't able to control their behavior one would hope that the rules of society serve as external controls and help control the behavior like that," according to Ralston.
Ralston says the lack of external controls result in the current breakdown in society.
She calls the beating another form of child abuse, which statistics indicate, is the greatest health hazard to children and the community.
