Today the MeadWestvaco Corporation unveiled their plans for East Edisto. It's being called a conservation-driven development that will span 72,000 acres in both Charleston and Dorchester Counties.
"It really is an unique opportunity for us to create a master plan which will have tremendous public benefit," said Ken Seeger with MeadWestvaco.
East Edisto will contain individual towns and villages, retail shopping, and schools. 75% of it is to remain green. Some people who live near the proposed development are skeptical about the plans however.
"I like the rural roads through here I think we have enough development," said concerned resident Mary Lou Farmer.
"I think we have a bad problem with overcrowding, especially on our roads," added Joe Pedalino.
The plans for the development are still considered preliminary. If you'd like to voice your opinion on the topic the next public meeting on the development is scheduled for April 8th at 6:30pm. It's going to be held at The Baptist Hill High School gym.
