(AP) -- The head of the new statewide school district governing charter schools says her district should get sales tax money just like any other district. State Public Charter School District Superintendent Barbara Nielsen says there is about $50 million dollars left over after schools got their funding and said her district should receive about $14 million for its 3,000 students. That's about $4,658 per student.
The sales tax money is replacing local property taxes that used to go schools.

But state Representative Bill Cotty says no money was allocated to the district when it was started and there shouldn't be any now. Schools chartered by the statewide district get state and federal money estimated at a total of $5,000 per student.
