Charleston, SC - The Penguin Exhibit was delivered to the South Carolina Aquarium Wednesday.
The exhibit structure for the "Penguin Planet" was loaded onto a barge on the East Cooper River before being pushed by a tugboat to the aquarium, where a crane lifted it into the building.
"This was a major feat of engineering for us. What we had to do today is take off an entire wall essentially of the aquarium. It's the first time that's been exposed since we opened the building in 2000," said Aquarium President, Kevin Mills.
Six South American penguins will live in the structure. They are expected to arrive in February. The exhibit will open in March and run for one year.
