Family of Man Killed in Tragic Accident Speaks Out

Colleton County, SC -
A Colleton County crash kills one person and injures three others, including a child and a sheriff's deputy.
It happened at the intersection of Clover Hill and Green Pond Highway at about 6:30 Tuesday night.
A pick-up truck with three passengers and a Colleton County deputy car collided on Green Pond highway. The impact was so massive, the cruiser ended up in the woods off the side of the road. The front ends of both vehicles were smashed.
Highway Patrol officials say Deputy Scott McCoy was driving the vehicle that collided with the pickup truck driven by Jake Wright of Green Pond.
Both were airlifted to MUSC. Jacob Wright, 21, the truck driver's son was killed in the accident.
“You can't really explain it, how can you explain death, sudden death like this, you really cant explain it,” Evelyn Watson, the victim’s aunt said.
The family lost another loved one at this intersection 14 years ago.
“This intersection, I don't know what to say about it, somebody is not right, somebody not right somewhere,” Rufus Grant, the victims uncle said.
Reverend Jake Wright and his adopted son, 8-year-old Timothy, were treated at an area hospital and released Wednesday.
Today, the community, family and friends stopped by pay their respects. Jake Wright’s brother, Solomon looked over the spot where he lost Jacob. The family, trying to come to grips with this tragedy.
“Everybody that knows, you can’t ask for a better young man, he’s gone now and you can’t question that because its gods will,” Wright’s aunt said.
The deputy involved in the crash was listed in good condition this morning.
Highway patrol is not saying how this happened, but the Colleton County Sheriff's Department confirms Deputy McCoy was responding to a call at the time of the crash.
