Drought Update - Late March '09

All Lowcountry counties are still classified as insipient status of drought, or the beginning stage of drought.

So far this year, Charleston has received 4.37" of rain compared to 10.31" the area should have already had so far.

Areas further upstate that are in at extreme drought status have actually had much higher amounts of rain this year.

Areas like Greenville and Greenwood have received more than 10" of rain this year, unfortunately the totals are all below average.

Extended forecast into Spring

La Nina pattern is expected to weaken and may become a neutral oscillation...giving hope for better chances of getting more rain by late Spring or early Summer

Check out the 1-month and 3-month extended precipitation forecasts
