Traveling Through a World of Technology

I didn't get my first cell phone until after college. I was in Colorado and couldn't beleive I had my own personal cell phone, granted, it weighed at least 10 pounds and was the first phone Motorola made, but I loved it. If you would have asked me all these years ago if a cell phone would be an integral part of my life...I would laugh..but now I can't live without it. Since that first Motorola phone, many of the cell phones after it were not fancy, I never thought I needed all the bells and whistles. That was until I got my BlackBerry...now I'm not giving Blackberry a shout out here...If my service provider allowed me to have an i-phone, I'd jump on the chance....but I do believe as of today, it's the best phone I've owned. I can send photos to Facebook and even check to see when the next thunderstorm is going to hit. You're probably laughing right now at my naive thrill at all the functions my phone has...and I wouldn't blame you....but it's pretty cool to imagine how far technology has come since then.

I'm definitely better at texting now that I have a Blackberry. It has a full keyboard so it makes it much quicker to text. Apparently many teenagers can text faster than I can type and some send up to a thousand (or more) texts per day. I couldn't imagine what life in high school would have been like if we had phones to text to our friends and boyfriends. One of my fondest memories of being a high schooler was to hear the ring of the phone from the kitchen and having no clue who was on the other end...and it was pretty cool to have your own telephone line in your room...but now technology has taken the life of a high school teenager into a realm that I don't even understand.

I do get annoyed quickly by people who text while driving however.  Is it really necessary for you to go from point A to point B without 5 minutes of communication -- especially one where your eyes are on your phone and so are your thumbs?? Lately, news stories have come across the wires claiming many of the drivers in fatal accidents were texting....no message is more important than someone's life. So the next time, your iphone bings..fight that urge to text back your friend that asks where you're going...because they probably want to make sure you get there..
