Events are in full bloom in the Lowcountry as well..at the end of March, Charleston Fashion Week takes center stage. Only four years ago, the staff at Charleston Magazine had this idea to have our own fashion week (similar to NY Fashion Week but on our scale) -- to see how this event has grown and matured is amazing. Each year, it gets better, I can't wait to see what they have in store. This week, I will be getting on the back of a rickshaw with Post & Courier columnist, Bryce Donovan, for a jaunt thru downtown to judge the windows of local retailers in honor of Fashion Week...I'm looking forward to it, because if you've ever talked to Bryce for five minutes, you'd realize his sense of humor is one of kind. You can check out his column on Thursdays. The only downside of Charleston Fashion Week is MY fashion...talk about pressure. I'm not one to shop...so trying to find something to wear will be difficult. Wish me luck on that one. www.charlestonfashionweek.com
The Cooper River Bridge Run is right around the corner and if you haven't started training, the experts would say it's too late, I would say "Hey, just walk it!!"- and if you can't make that run, the bridge is always open other days for you to enjoy -- that view never gets old! The same weekend of the Bridge Run is Summerville's Azalea Festival/Flowertown Festival and boy, has it grown since I grew up in the 'Ville. Thousands upon thousands descend upon my hometown to check out some of the coolest arts and crafts from around the Southeast, I remember as a child, it being the big event that I looked forward to every year and I can't imagine how I would feel about it if I was a kid now! Wow!! www.bridgerun.com
Finally, weddings....Wedding season is upon us and even in this crazy economy, love prevails...just on the cheap. I will be doing my first wedding in April (no, I'm not getting married again!!) ....I will be the officiant for our ABC News 4 Reporter's Shawn Smetana's wedding to his very lovely bride, Tonya. I was so honored when they asked me, and the episode of "Friends" came to my mind when Joey did a wedding. To tell you the truth, I'm a little nervous because I know this day is a big one for Tonya and I want to make sure I will say everything perfectly for her -- so if any of you have done any weddings, I would love some tips...email me lowcountrylive@abcnews4.com or send me a message on our Lowcountry Live Facebook Page! www.facebook.com
I hope you will enjoy this Spring as much as I will, I just hope I can squeeze all of these events into my calendar.
