This weekend, my mom is turning 60 and she'll probably be mad that just told her age, but I'm proud of her (Happy Birthday Mom!) . She's looking great and without her, I wouldn't be the woman I am today. Moms don't always get all the credit they deserve and yet they never ask for credit...they thrive off seeing you win your first award in kindergarten, graduate from high school & college and then smile proudly when you move onto blossoming into being a woman on your own.
My mom let me make my mistakes and would only say "I told you so" every so often. I remember how heartbroken I was over a boyfriend in high school. At the time, I thought he was the best guy I had ever met. You know...that first love heartbreak that makes you feel as if you'll never love another guy in your life. Ha! I look back now and laugh for two reasons...one, I can't believe I was so naive to think I would never love again, to tell you the truth, that guy was completely wrong for me...two, my mom never once told me that he was the wrong guy for me, even though she knew it. She let me get over my heartbreak with a hug and smile. It was a decade later that she told me how she truly felt about him. And because this a family friendly blog, I will spare you the words, but you get the idea.
Everyday in the newsroom, I see how the moms juggle a full time job and then pick up their children from school, make dinner, get the kids in the bath, clean the house, get the kids to bed and then do it all over again the next morning. I'm in awe of their energy and ability to multi-task and hope that one day in the future, I will be like them. But the one thing I've noticed about these special women is that rarely do they take time for themselves. They laugh at you when you say the word "manicure" and often sport a ponytail because they haven't had their hair professional done in a long time. They simply don't have the time anymore to pamper themselves like they did pre-motherhood...
So if you know a few moms that need a day of pampering and marvelous makeover, then you must enter them in the Lowcountry Royal Mommy Makeover. www.lowcountrymommymakeover.com
